The second edition took place in <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\"><b>Constanta from October 23-25, 2024<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">, providing a platform for meaningful discussions that encompassed both <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\"><b>fundamental research<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> and <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\"><b>technological innovations<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> among scientists and industry representatives involved in <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\"><b>blue economy<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Led by the project partners <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rmri.ro\/Home\/Home.html?lang=en\">NIMRD<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/denizbilimleri.istanbul.edu.tr\/en\/_\" target=\"_blank\">Istanbul University<\/a>, <\/b>and<b>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcmr.gr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">HCMR<\/a><\/b>, the special session focused on <b>harmonizing research methodologies in the Black Sea<\/b>. It attracted <b>88 participants from 14 countries<\/b>, including Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Spain, T\u00fcrkiye, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. Attendees represented <b>various sectors<\/b> such as academia, research, education, policy-making, local authorities, NGOs, and the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>During the session, representatives from both the <b>BRIDGE-BS and DOORS projects <\/b>presented their specific objectives, goals, and deliverables.&nbsp;<b>The BRIDGE-BS team focused on harmonizing research frameworks to streamline data analysis and reporting. <\/b>At the same time, the <b>DOORS team provided complementary goals highlighting interoperability and integration within broader marine data initiatives.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>BRIDGE-BS highlighted our approaches to harmonising key research methodologies, with presentations on:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Chemistry and Quality Assurance: <\/b>An overview of the IC Quasimeme exercises and a quality assurance initiative for macrozoobenthos, ensuring consistency in chemical and biological measurements.<\/li>\n<li><b>CTD Comparison Exercise: <\/b>Preparations for the 2024 summer exercise aimed at setting benchmarks for oceanographic data comparability.<\/li>\n<li><b>Chlorophyll-a Methodology:<\/b> A framework for aligning chemical and biological parameters, using chlorophyll-a as a case study.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mesozooplankton Sampling Framework:<\/b> Insights into sampling and analysis standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The DOORS project followed with a discussion on its harmonization and inter-calibration efforts, emphasizing:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Harmonization and Intercalibration Exercises:<\/b> Key methodologies for assessing chlorophyll and marine litter to ensure aligned research outputs.<br><b>Open Science and FAIR Principles:<\/b> Initiatives promoting accessible, transparent, and reproducible science, which were well-received as critical for future collaborative efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The session also fostered <b>discussions on next steps<\/b>, with both project teams reflecting on their methodologies and <b>identifying potential areas <\/b>for further harmonization.
