The call for abstracts for the EMSEA Annual Conference 2023 is now open!

  • BRIDGE-BS partner EMSEA celebrates its 10 years anniversary! To usher this milestone, EMSEA ventures beyond the EU boundaries and brings its members to one of the EU’s partner countries: Georgia. The conference takes place in Batumi, a vibrant coastal city in the southeast.

At this conference, EMSEA members, organizations, and individuals that have been invaluable to marine education in the first decade will share their expertise on marine education. In Batumi, we will establish a Black Sea Literacy Network, under the framework of BRIDGE-BS. The goal is to bring together marine scientists, educators, companies involved in the blue economy, ocean professionals, and anyone who is enthusiastic and curious about education on the Black Sea. The conference aims to showcase good education and training practices on improving knowledge of the marine environment, the blue economy, and maritime careers. Moreover, it is an opportunity to network by facilitating a regional dialogue on Ocean Literacy in the Black Sea and with the wider EMSEA community.

The deadline for the abstract submission is extended until 8 September 2023, 5:00 CET.

EMSEA 2023 calls for abstract submissions for oral (15 minutes) , poster presentation and workshops on the following themes:

Abstract Themes

  • Ocean literacy in the Black Sea: This theme encourages presentations, posters and workshops on ongoing and recent Ocean Literacy projects and initiatives in the Black Sea Basin that began in 2012 or later.
  • Blue economy and education: We include presentations and posters that identify or describe programs that help students into a marine or maritime career or that help to develop the economy, whether it be offshore energy, shipping, aquaculture, ecotourism or an innovative entrepreneurial activity.
  • Watersports and ocean literacy: Projects and good practices for and from water sports actors to educate youth in eco-responsible actions and develop ocean environmental awareness from an early age .
  • Ocean conservation: Ocean conservancy is tackling our ocean’s greatest global challenges, like biodiversity loss, climate change and plastic pollution. In this session, you can share your programs, projects and business on taking action to protect and restore our coasts, seas and the ocean.
  • Open Session: If you have an interesting subject that relates to the EMSEA objectives but it is not covered in the other sessions, please submit an abstract under this heading.
