This year’s theme is, “The Midpoint of the SDGs: Global and Local Progress & Challenges”. ICSD 2023 will be hybrid. Events on September 18th (side events) and 19th (parallel sessions and abstract presentations) will take place virtually. The high-level segment on September 20th can be attended virtually, or in person at Alfred Lerner Hall on the Columbia University Campus in New York City.

Two of the following four themes will be funded, depending on candidate quality: - Machine Learning approaches for the Analysis of Marine Ecosystem indicators - Twilight Zone & endangered oceanic filter-feeding elasmobranchs - Ecosystem Services considerations into integrated ecosystem assessments #IEA using a functional trait-based approach - Coastal fish communities in the oceanic archipelagoes of the Atlantic Ocean The right candidates will be co-supervised by a team of pan-Atlantic senior scientists, and your scientific research will contribute directly to better management of our oceans.

Our studies are especially close to the research object, which you will touch in the laboratories – whether it is a molecule of a microbe, or a menu of wintering birds. You may have to get into water yourself while analyzing the habitats of the seabed or the behaviour of marine mammals. You will gain both theory and practice from the specialists of the field. While studying biology and marine biotechnology you will gain valuable practical skills and special, social, and personal competences, which will assist you in the pursuit of your further life goals. Three years in the laboratory is a solid practical preparation to work in a wide range of areas.
