The "Biotechnology" Department is a department with traditions in the education of students in the field of biotechnology. In 1963, for the first time in Bulgaria, the UHT organized the training of students in the field of biotechnology, and at that time the specialty was called "Technology of biological preparations, vitamins, and yeasts". In 1973, the name of the specialty was changed to "Technology of Microbiological and Fermentation Products", and in 1984, after the approval of new curricula, a new direction was created - Biotechnology, including the new specialty "Technology of Bioproduction".
