The Institute offers graduate studies in M.S. and Ph.D. levels in the fields of Environmental Sciences and Environmental Technology. The M.S. program requires at least 24 credit hours of course work, 1 seminar and a written thesis. The Ph.D. program requires at least 24 credit hours of course work, 1 seminar, and a written dissertation. The Ph.D. candidates are required to pass a Comprehensive Examination before they commence their thesis work.

In accordance with the mission of the “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galati, the assumed aim of this program is to generate and transfer knowledge to society, through continuous training at the university and postgraduate level, in order to meet the expectations of the socio-economic environment for certain skills and knowledge, as well as the dissemination of results at a regional, national and international level.

The "Biotechnology" Department is a department with traditions in the education of students in the field of biotechnology. In 1963, for the first time in Bulgaria, the UHT organized the training of students in the field of biotechnology, and at that time the specialty was called "Technology of biological preparations, vitamins, and yeasts". In 1973, the name of the specialty was changed to "Technology of Microbiological and Fermentation Products", and in 1984, after the approval of new curricula, a new direction was created - Biotechnology, including the new specialty "Technology of Bioproduction".
