The call for applications for an Early-Career Scientist (ECS) to join the SCOR Executive Committee is now open. The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) is an international non-governmental organization whose vision is to advance international ocean research, within and across disciplines, by stimulating international cooperation in ocean sciences. More information about SCOR can be found at www.scor-int.org. The ECS in the SCOR Executive Committee will help reach out to the broader early-career community and get it involved in SCOR activities. The early-career scientist (ECS) will have the same responsibilities as other SCOR Executive Committee members (see https://scor-int.org/scor/about/officers/job-descriptions/). The duties of SCOR Executive Committee Members require a few hours each week for responding to emails and reviewing documents, as well as attendance at the SCOR Annual Meeting each year they are on the Executive Committee. The term of appointment will be for two years. The 2024 Annual Meeting will be held in Qingdao, China and is scheduled for 16-18 October 2024. The meeting will be in hybrid mode. SCOR will pay for the travel costs of the ECS related to SCOR meetings.

In this 20th edition of AZTI´s Summer School, the topic proposed is “Bridging the gap between marine science and policy: Communicating for an informed society and decision-making». This year, the school is organized in the framework of several Horizon Europe projects: GES4SEAS, OBAMA-NEXT, BiOcean5D, ACTNOW, Marine SABRES and MARBEFES. The main objective of the course is to present, both theoretically and practically, different tools and methods for a better transmission of the ideas, connecting science and policy in an effective manner. To achieve this objective, we have organized the school in three days, dedicating each of them to a target audience, combining the experiences from scientists, journalists, practitioners and managers in making science available for policy-makers. The course is open for early career scientists, senior scientists wanting to better communicate, communicators, managers and policy-makers, to jointly debate this current hot topic.
