Black Sea ‘2022 is a follow-up of the traditional events regularly held in Varna on the problems of marine science and technologies. Black Sea ‘2022 is expected to provide the opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between researchers from different scientific areas and from different countries in Europe, as well as meeting people of science with people from industry and shipping.

It is possible to attend the symposium as a listener, or to participate in an oral presentation and a poster presentation. Symposium topics are: Fisheries Biology & Management, Aquaculture, Biotechnology & Genetics, Fisheries Socio-Economics, Fish Nutrition & Health, Fish Pathology & Physiology, Seafood Processing Technology, Animal Welfare, Ecology

In order to upskill and ensure the understanding of the challenges and opportunities to be addressed for a sustainable Blue Economy across the Black Sea, BRIDGE-BS conducts a range of educational and capacity-building activities. With this aim, a summer school is organized by targeting graduate students from the Black Sea riparian countries on 23-25 August 2022 (for a total of 4 days, including the arrival day), hosted by one of the facilities of the Istanbul University (IU). The courses provided during the summer school will cover the main aspects related to the Black Sea ecosystem and six prominent economic activities for a sustainable Blue Economy in the Black Sea [marine living resources (fisheries and aquaculture), transport, tourism, energy, and biotech.

On July 5, 2022, under the initiative and organization of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, the working group of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University participated in the national scientific-educational event "Black Sea Blue Policy" held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli University in Batumi. Following the EU Black Sea synergy initiative approach the members of the working group introduced the current scientific research projects related to the Black Sea ongoing at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, financed by the European Union. In parallel with the informative presentations, the representatives of the university conducted a scientific cognitive quiz and a contest of thematic paintings related to the Black Sea for the wide range of event attendees. The participants were presented with gifts created within the framework of the projects on behalf of TSU. The "Black Sea Blue Policy" mission was to raise public awareness, promoting scientific research and innovation and disseminating the relevant information on achievements to the general public.

Institute of Marine Sciences, METU, provides internship opportunities for enthusiastic undergraduate students who would like to gain some background and experience in marine sciences. Institute of Marine Sciences is a graduate school under Middle East Technical University, that conducts research in three major areas; i) marine biology and fisheries, ii) marine geology and geophysics, and iii) oceanography. In each area of research, METU-IMS researches different properties of the marine environment. The scientific research is supported by national and international project funding. Research is held through theoretical and practical studies, both in the laboratory environment and on the scientific research vessel possessed by the institute.

GeoEcoMar provides a training opportunity for two postgraduates and/or university students who are interested in the taxonomy and ecology of pelagic and benthic marine communities. This training course will also enable participants to acquire knowledge about the molecular techniques that could be used to assess these communities (DNA barcoding analysis, phylogeny, etc. ). The research will consist of theoretical and practical studies held in the new and fully equipped laboratories and, if possible, onboard the GeoEcoMar research vessel (Mare Nigrum). The training course will be carried out for 4 weeks during the period June - July 2023.
